Harper’s was a popular American magazine. Despite their British background, Australian artists became influenced by American politics and culture in the 1880s. American ideals contributed to the movement towards Federation in 1901. This work was exhibited at the 9 by 5 Impression Exhibition, Melbourne, 1889.
